The Directress Role
Teachers are called directress to remind them to gently direct and guide the children in their activities rather than dictate the child's every move. This leads to mutual respect and affection helping the children develop confidence in their own ability.
The variety of materials to explore, the teacher's quiet demonstration of their possibilities, and the time available for the child to watch older children, all work together to help the child develop the courage to try new things.

![]() | My name is Debora Vieira and I have been working with children since 2000. I completed my Early Childhood Education Course in 2003, received my provincial ECE Licence in 2004, same year that I completed my Montessori Training at Western Montessori Teachers College. I believe that the Montessori Method best takes advantage of the child's sensitive periods for learning helping to create the foundation for academic achivement. Keeping that in mind I started to operate my first classroom at Websters Corner in 2004 and my second location in September 2008 at Thornhill Corner. |
![]() | My name is Andrea Rice and I have been working with children in Montessori and preschool settings for 3 plus years. I received my Montessori training through North American Montessori Center in 2006, and my ECE through Pacific Rim Institute in Victoria. I truly believe that as Montessori educators, we have the unique opportunity to facilitate the child's natural curiosity and exploration of their environment, following their own unique path to higher learning and reaching their fullest educational potential. |
![]() | My name is Tammy Hicks. After working part time for many years while my 2 children were young, I was looking for a new career and discovered the wonderful Montessori Method. I feel that the Montessori environment provides positive, unlimited opportunities for children to learn at their own pace and in their own individual way. I have studied through the North American Montessori Center and the Pacific Rim Early Childhood Institute in Victoria. |
